Ascent Trip ReportJust heading out to enjoy a warm winter day in Northern Nevada, we had about 3-4 weeks with no precipitation so, many roads which are normally too muddy to use in winter were now dry enough to travel. Peak Bagging has been on order. Donna Schee is the highest peak in the Jungo Hills, a funny little cluster at the north end of a large alkali flat and disassociated with the major basin and range ranges in the area, notably adjacent to the Jacksons. The peak is obvious on the drive in at the southeast end of the range.
From Jungo Rd, took Bottle Creek Rd north for a few miles until turning off onto a basic two track which travels along the north edge of the playa and just south of the Jungo Hills. The playa was a full on lake at this time of year and made nice reflections of nearby ranges. Just before reaching a point due south of Donna Schee, there is an old mine claim rd heading north which we traveled for a few hundred yards before deciding that walking would be just as easy. We picked one of the obvious ridges straight up the front and made the trip relatively quickly. The peak afforded great views of Jungo Flats and Desert Valley as well as Blue Mountain, Eugenes, Slumbering Hills and the Jacksons. Jungo Hills were surprisingly scenic with no roads to note, no recent fire damage and some interesting geology. Along with the weather, this made for a great afternoon. Found some historical markings on the summit (some boards, steel rebar and some wire). Returned along a different ridge to alternate the scenery a bit and the round trip took maybe 2 hours.
