Ascent Trip Report

Looking towards Pyramid Peak, a large wash exits the mountains at a point about 2 mi north of the Slabby Acres, where I parked. The walk to this point is across easy desert pavement with lots of pretty cactus. A faint use trail which eventually leads to the summit begins to appear as one leaves the open desert and enters the wash. The trail becomes more visible as it leaves the main wash west for a side wash about half a mile further. Another quarter mile or so down the side wash the trail, now more obvious, climbs out of the wash towards a saddle. At the saddle, turn west and follow the trail along the ridge all the way to the summit.

The use trail makes a big difference - it takes a good route, and it has cairns at well-chosen spots. Now and then the trail becomes hard to see, especially along the last part, above the third saddle, where it navigates through several crags. It stays close to the ridge, where you can always find it if you get lost. The GPS track follows the use trail closely.

The hike is beautiful all the way, with pretty cactus growing in the multi colored rock. The views from the top are outstanding.
