Ascent Trip ReportDriving Directions:
0.0 Drive to Big Horn Station on the south side of I-8 at virtual MP 136.5. Cross the freeway median if necessary and drive south through an unlocked gate. 0.1 Pass by an information kiosk and sign in. Follow BLM Road 8011 south. 0.3 Continue Straight. 0.4 Cross a gravely wash. 0.5 Turn Left onto BLM Road 8015 at a Y junction. 2.5 Gate 7A – pass through; you are entering Area A of the Sonoran Desert National Monument. You are required to have an annual permit available from https://luke.isportsman.net/ You will soon need high clearance to continue on this road. 4.5 Bear Left to stay on Road 8015 and cross a wash (Road 8015A climbs to the right). 5.5 I parked where Road 8015C turns left (Road 8015 worsens from here).
Climbing Notes:
My ascent route included extra gain on the ridge but the route was open. My descent route lost elevation efficiently, but then required crossing several washes and low ridges. Should I return I would likely use my ascent route for the descent as well.
