Ascent Trip Report

***Private Outing***

Via HPS Route 1 from Red Box. We started around 7:00 am and didn't see many others on our way up to Lawlor. But once we left the main trail and started up the use trail on Lawlor, we realized there were scores and scores of people out on the trail, most of them seemed to be heading to Strawberry (only one of them up to Lawlor!). Once we got back down to the Strawberry-Lawlor saddle we were in the thick of it, countless groups of from two to a dozen or more people heading up or down, lots of dogs out there, we were constantly pulling off the trail to let others go up or down past us. I don't think 5 minutes passed without seeing someone, it was the busiest I've ever seen it in the San Gabriels, it reminded me of the trail to Mt Whitney, or maybe to Angels Landing in Zion (it wasn't as bad as that though). Other than that, it was a beautiful spring day out there; a little on the warm side, but the visibility was great and a sometimes breeze kept the temps down.

8.6 miles with 2,475' gain for the round trip.
