Ascent Trip ReportFollowed the main route up Trail Canyon to the saddle, then up sketchy trails through the talus to the top.
The "highlight" was stepping in quicksand, the only time I have ever done so. There was a patch of it near the creek. I stepped on what looked like tufty grass and boom, I was up to my knee in thick mud and muck. Fortunately, I still had one foot on dry land and my partner gave me a hand to ease myself out of the goo. It was as thick as wet cement. My boot, sock and leg were covered in this muck the rest of the day.
On the drive out, in the dark on the highway between Dyer and US-95, I crested a rise and there were cattle standing there on the road. Too late to brake, I somehow weaved through them. Had I hit one, it would have been bad news. I was going about 60 mph.
Fun hike, but I still had a lot to learn.
