Ascent Trip Report

Seven of us, all students or former students of UC Riverside, teamed to climb this peak and camp out a couple nights. We took the Palm Springs Tram to its top, then followed trails west a couple miles, camping somewhere in the Tamarack Valley. It had been a heavy snow year and a lot of the terrain below 9500 feet was muddy, or massive shallow lakes. We had to get creative to get around these barriers to our camp.

The next day, we hiked up the trail until it became covered in snow. We then went cross-country over the snow to the top, which was bare. The day was warm. The snow itself was consolidated and formed into suncups and other dimply shapes. It made travel easy in that it was solid, but not easy to move quickly over it.

We stayed another night at camp and hiked out the following day.
