Ascent Trip Report

Regular parking lot for the Santa Ana River Trail is temporarily closed for freeway construction. Signs on Green River Road lead to the temporary trail parking lot relocated to an office building at 4740 Green River Road - about 3/4 mile from the regular parking lot. Decided to take the longer way up to Sierra Peak, so this was stop #2 after Picnic Rock on our 3-Peak journey. Trail is a groomed fire road, easy to follow, and gains elevation at a reasonable clip. Strong wind gusts all throughout the day. Found 3 of the 5 survey markers up on the Peak. Hike down from Sierra Peak along Telephone Trail and Pipeline Trail is VERY steep - lots of slipping and trying to find a navigable path. The total hike for Picnic Rock, Sierra Peak and Pipeline Peak was 14.8 miles and 2,950ft gain.
