2; Sheep Mountain
Got my Start at Sawmill Trailhead following Cactus Spring Trail which initially starts with a Road Hike and eventually a Trail and drops down quiet a bit before climbing again, eventually leveling out for a bit and then climbing again. Most of the Trail is easy to follow till about 1.5 Miles before reaching the Summit. A bit of a maze with many Cairns (some misleading) to follow through. A bit of Boulder hoping and then the Summit Block. After careful locking around I found a crack, which can be climbed with minimal exposure to reach the True Highpoint with a Register. Again careful Route-finding on the return till reaching the proper trail and cruise down to the Junction of Sheep Peak. Going up to Sheep is trivial but not much to it. Made a bit of mistake going down from Sheep and dropped into a wrong wash and getting me further away from Cactus Spring Trail where I wanted to rejoin my ascent Route. After realizing my blunder and following the wrong wash down I had to cross several washes to get me back. Unnecessary Elevation gain and drop with traversing loose terrain cost some valuable time but eventually got me back on track. Sure there is a better and easier way than what I did. Once back at the Main Trail it’s easy again to follow it back to the Trailhead. An enjoyable Hike for me and easier than I had thought it would be by combing this two Peak, nevertheless to say I still came in over 20 Miles in total.
Happy Hiking, Josef
