Ascent Trip ReportParked at the Crawford Connector Trailhead. Very few people there but at the end of the hike the parking lot was full. Started around 7:45 am. Over night there was 4 inches of snow. The parking lot was not plowed but drivable. Still snowing, started to hike up the Crawford Path. Only few people had gone before us and met them almost to the top. Microspikes all the way. Snowshoes could have worked. Some hikers had them on while going done but really no need. Some soft spots on the monorail as the first hiker had problems. Thank the first hiker for breaking trail with new snow. Easy trail to hike but with warm weather it will be difficult. Above the tree line, up to 50 mph winds and the path was not noticeable. Needed some apps to make sure on the correct path. Wind drifts were heavy. All parties were send down and not to hike Eisenhower since conditions were not favorable. All the way down, educating the hikers. Despite the wind conditions and the wind chills, the path was found down and once at the next junction it was great. Sun came out once about 3/4 a way down and it was point of new return. Figured another hour we could start hiking but with temps below zero decided to head down. Weather changes on mountains at any time. The weather was change even from the report last night and the morning of. This has happen to me when I first hike this mountain. |
