Ascent Trip Report

Final day in Flagstaff - we headed down to Sedona to enjoy the red rock and arches! Long Canyon was recommended to us - as a BEAUTIFUL hike.... not technically challenging, and after Elden Peak we opted for something with minimal elevation gain instead. Headed 3.5 miles to the back of trail. Some biting flies - but nothing too severe. At what we thought was the end, we decided to head up and to the left, following the dry stream bed. A bit of scrambling was TOTALLY worth it. Another 1/2 mile or so, we found the elusive cul-de-sac and the best red canyon views EVER. Beautiful area - too bad we didn't bring supplies for cooking lunch. Some really nice arch formations. Very secluded. Eventually we made our way back, following the canyon out. Spotted one venemous snake - not a rattler - but venom sacks were obvious. Sandy at times, and a few rocky stream bed crossings.
