Ascent Trip ReportThere was a grizzly bear warning at trailhead. Followed Ptarmigan Cirque trail through enclosed forest - due to warning, I went slower than normal. After emerging from forest, follow spur trail to the back of the cirque on your left. Trail fades away as you reach rock slabs to the right of a gully that leads to the col above. The gully was still fully snow covered so I decided to take on the slabs. Although there was snow on the narrow col, the route was completely dry to the left of the large gendarme ahead. There are a couple options to reach the summit ridge although I will note the ridge is quite narrow in spots so the longer you wait, the better it might be overall. I found a good route beside a pinnacle with yellow splotches. There is a considerable drop off the ridge on the north side. Retraced my ascent route on descent except at the col, I glissaded down the snow filled gully. |
