Ascent Trip ReportI had already been on the HP of this local state park HP while working on my masters degree a few years ago, but while neighbors decided to get some excercise in this weekend hiking the forest land in the park, i thought, why not verify the state park HP, quite frankly - for FL this park has more interest than those HPs on the state park HP lists in coastal locations where there is only ten feet of relief. This park is a highly active karst region and the resulting sandhills, and sinks provide (for FL) a lot of rolling terrain with massive Florida-style gains of 40 to 50 feet!!
Took the trails down to the river around elvation 20 to see floodplain blackgums, sweetgums, red maple, ironwood, sabal palm, basswood, loblolly pine and bald cypress then through the mesic faltwoods or longleaf pine, pond pine, shiny lyonia, and saw palmeto an then up to the rolling sand hills of longleaf pine, turkey oak and various srub (Champan, myrtle oak, and sand pine) t highpoint in youth camping area and back.
