Ascent Trip Report

I would not recommend the northern ridgeline starting from the small active Desert Queen Mine. While the rock is solid, it combines as much approach as any on the west side, a steep climb and needlessly long undulation on the ridge. The initial view is a tease! With 4WD, one should drive to the more southern 1608-spot-elevation eastward track ending (32.57426, -111.90682) at the peak's NW drainage wash, or if one doesn't mind the Border Patrol checkpoint, Old Mammon Mine. From there, one should approach and climb Prieta's NW gully or one of the subridges on either side of it. Even without an SUV, walking this route is likely preferable, if one can find secluded parking.
