Ascent Trip ReportHad some business in Reading so I took advantage and headed up Rt. 183 to the AT to bag Berks County's high point. There was about 2 inches of powder snow on the ground and it was snowing when I set out. Met 2 groups of backpackers coming out. Surprisingly, the HP is further from the AT than the topo shows. It appears the trail was re-routed north. Fortunately there is a maintained trail to the high point. After about a mile on the trail you will see a sign stating "B.C. HP 1.7". Follow the white round blazes to another sign marked "Caleb Frantz Memorial Trail." From here it is only 1/10 of a mile to the summit cairn and it is clearly marked with round yellow blazes. Summit register on top. Whoever build the trail did a nice job. I suspect it was the local Boy Scouts. |
