Ascent Trip Report I climbed up x-country from the loop trail just past the trail high point, then down to about 100 yards before the trail high point. I then continued back up over the trail high point and down and up the loop trail the long way around, found it was much longer than anticipated, so I ended up coming back in total darkness, using my flashlight to try to avoid the mud puddles, some which went half way up my boot and got my socks a bit wet.
An interesting point is there's a shortcut through a meadow to Bellfountain Hwy where the trail turns south.
Also, my GPS track for this hike shows two good routes to bushwhack through the brush near the trail before it opens up about 1/3 way to the top of Mill Hill. It also shows the entire loop trail and a couple different ways to start the hike, that small stretch of trail nearest the visitor center being the least muddy, the mud being a problem, since there's quite a few stretches of trail that not only have standing water but several with water running down the width of the trail for a long stretch.
