Ascent Trip Report

This was a hairy one. Day 3 of my high peaks trip, hitting giant, cascade, and porter in the two days before. While there is a road all the way up, this is no joke in winter.

-1 F when I started with a high of 12, and 50mph wind or so on the summit, sometimes threatening to blow me over at the top. I actually enjoyed getting to the windswept road section, as it felt like another planet and the views were incredible from then on. The wind, though. Would not recommend without goggles and face covering. The 4 other people I saw all had snowshoes, but they weren’t needed. The trail was packed hard. Step off and you sink a foot or two. Ended up carrying my snowshoes up and down and never even needed to put on my microspikes. Always prefer to keep my feet light, if possible. Epic summit
