Ascent Trip ReportToday I set out on truly bagging all of the main peaks along the main ridgelines of Hanging Rock State Park. I visited this park many, many, *many* times while at UNCG but this was well before I felt any need to go out of my way to truly tag all the peaks of Hanging Rock.
And wouldn't you know it, I just found out I didn't truly bag the high point of the mountain!!! I wandered out onto the high NE contour but didn't feel like scrambling up to the top as I had a long hike ahead of me. Neither did I notice the fact that the higher NE contour was marked on Peakbagger before I headed out. Well, I will certainly be back for it very soon.
I did, however, bag the Hanging Bluff formation which is listed here. This formation doesn't really have a "high point" per se but the highest thing around is a narrow rock outcropping to the right of the approach trail. It's a tad bit forested.
It feels great to be at this park again, I look forward to coming back to grab the true high point of the mountain. |
