Ascent of Ralston Peak on 2021-01-07
|Date:||Thursday, January 7, 2021|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||4559 ft / 1389 m|
Ascent Trip ReportThe ascent route became a bit steep, sandy, and loose as it approached the prominent west ridge leading to the summit. My old man knees were not looking forward to going down the part leaving the ridge. So, on the descent route I followed the west ridge further to a saddle (where the GPS route picks up again from the summit area and where I discovered the batteries were dead) just east of small peaklet (the route was generally ok to this point). The sidehill around this peaklet and descent down its SSW ridge was a bit lose, sandy, and steep - not really recommended.
What appeared to be a better route (than the ones I took) would be to reach the aforementioned saddle from the North (Lone Pine Canyon Road) then continue up the west ridge
