Ascent Trip ReportIt appears that a 20-mile ridge traverse from Joseph D. Grant park become a standard route for Poverty Ridge. I wanted to study alternate approaches. Felter road was gated at (37.41841, -121.76068) with no good place to park/hike a car. An approach from Sierra Vista Open Space Preserve seemed possible - it is longer than Felter road approach, but it is still sorter than Joseph D. Grant park approach.
I took mostly exposed dirt roads on my ascent toward the ridge line and took mostly off-trail cross-country route on my descent. With mostly gentle grassy hills my return route turns out to be pretty good, with no line of sights from any homes and this is also in various public lands as a bonus. This descended toward Cherry Flat Reservoir area. I took Alum Rock Fall road back to Sierra Vista. I saw no one. See my GPS track for details.
The trip was about 16.5 miles including a visit to Peak 2071.
