Ascent Trip Report

Sean and Ava. We had a later start 11 or 11:30am? Gate closes at 4pm so I was prepared to turn around early, Sean was determined not to and said would run down if needed to move the car in time. Busier than expected getting up to the falls then less so after as typical.

Saw Sonja as she was heading down and chatted a bit, and then Brett and ____. Chatted for quite awhile as hadn’t seen since this whole covid pandemic ... long enough so I got cold. Once moving again snow wasn’t too deep but rather sloppy and slippery... biggest experience however was what turned into basically a downpour of snow melt from the trees. After tolerations dripping and drizzling we put on our rain jackets and thankfully so as it was the most consistent tree melt rain I’ve ever experienced. My pants became soaked on what I had thought was to be a nice day... this combined with the timing and getting much colder up high as I struggled to pull off my soaked gloves and find and put on my mittens. I decided to turn around in the forest above the steep rock step at 2pm. Sean and Ava booked it up the last bit to the top and were back down quickly. I told Sean to go ahead and get to the car so we wouldn’t be locked in. Since he ran sean made it back with way more than enough time and I even made it back at 4pm. So I suppose I should have continued to the top but with being soaked, late in the day and concerns about the car it wasn’t a bad call to turn around.

In any case don’t know what the typical us but the gate wasn’t locked right at 4pm that day.
