Ascent of Spaniards Knob on 2020-12-19
|Date:||Saturday, December 19, 2020|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||4000 ft / 1219 m|
Ascent Trip ReportI tagged Spaniards after Horsetrough. At Chattahoochee Gap, I followed the AT eastward. At Red Clay Gap I left the trail and simply followed the ridge. This was a very steep bushwhack but relatively open and free of underbrush. There are obstructed views of South Wolfpen Ridge, Brasstown Bald, and Horsetrough. With no significant views, I turned around and made for the car. My legs were pretty well dead by the time I made it to the car but I decided to pop up and bag South Wolfpen Ridge before calling it a day.
I put the distance and elevation data in my Horsetrough report, but doing Spaniards on its own from Jack's Gap would be about 6.4 roundtrip with approximately 2300 feet of gain. From Chattahoochee Gap, it took me 35 minutes to reach the summit and 1 hour and 11 minutes to make it from the summit back to the car.
