Ascent Trip Report

To get to this peak take Hwy 374 southwest out of Beatty, NV. About 19 miles out of Beatty you will see a sign on the right for Corkscrew Peak and then about 200 yards further there is a big turn out where multiple cars can park. There is a very nice trail that goes all the way to the summit. It actually starts at the sign, but there is no where to park here so most people start hiking up the wash from the turnout. You will notice that the track I have posted shows a route up the wash until it meets up with the trail. On the way down we hiked all the way down the trail to nearby the sign. Its hard to pick up the trail if you want to start at the sign. There's a few cairns but the trail becomes more distinct after about 200 yards. Anyway, try to get on the trail as soon as possible because its very well cairned and maintained. The trail goes up the wash and becomes less distinct but the wash narrows with cliffs on either side and the trail turns left and climbs out of the wash onto an ascending ridgeline. The trail goes up through a cliff band and sometimes gets very steep with loose rock. We were able to go up the trail without poles but on the descent the poles came in handy on the steepest sections of the trail. At the summit there are fantastic views of Death Valley. There is a large rock cropping near the peak that allows for some great photo ops.
