Ascent Trip ReportFrom Keno, OR, drive 8.5 miles west on OR 66 to Hamaker Mountain Rd. After 5.5 miles on this good gravel road, with occasional potholes, turn right and follow the unsigned road 1,8 miles to Chase Mountain L.O. The last quarter mile is rough and rutted. The L.O.'s aging 20' all-steel tower has been in service since 1951 and is staffed during fire season. The unusual entrance to the cab is from the steel ladder which enters directly through a covered opening in the cab floor. The L.O. shares the limited summit area with an array of communications equipment. The rewarding vistas are hampered only by nearby and somewhat Hamaker Mountain. 7.3 miles from L.O. to OR 66. |
