Continuing from Shinar Saddle , the road ascends to a 4-way junction with no signs (7.5 miles from CA 96). Take FSR 17N48 (no mention of L.O.), a good dirt road, 1.6 miles to Slater Butte L.O. Good visibility provided fine views in all directions, particularly of Preston Peak, the Red Butte Wilderness, the Scott and Marble Mountains, and the Klamath River. The L.O. is staffed during fire season.
