Ascent Trip ReportMy GPS track shows barrier-free driving access from the east. The most direct drive up route involves 4.5 miles of pavement and 5.5 miles (10 miles one-way) of excellent gravel.
I can't guarantee this route will be open, but we encountered no gates, guards, or prohobitive signage. I purposefully visited on a quiet holiday weekend.
The Lookout is surrounded by fence, but it does have holes in it. The lowest ladder has been removed. My skinny 14 year old was able to climb one of the trees growing inside the footprint, and access the upper steps. My big butt broke some branches and called the whole thing off.
If I ever went back, I would take a 24' extension ladder to reach the beam where the steps start. This may be illegal, dangerous, and dumb. I can't recommend it.
ETA: Apparently this area requires a range pass, effectively marking it safe for travel. Instructions for that range pass are available in LK's trip report on this page. |
