Ascent Trip ReportI'm not real sure where the true summit of Paint Mountain is. LoJ lists it in one area and Peakbagger has it labeled as somewhere else. The spot listed on Peakbagger is higher by about 30'. I tagged both points just to be sure.
From Lone Pine Gap, head west on the Paint Mountain Trail. There are some good views pretty quickly and once you attain the ridge it's a pretty nice stroll. After reaching the summit and continuing down the ridge you'll come to the intersection of the Paint Mountain Trail and Cummins Branch Rd. From here there is an ATV path that heads up to the second summit. I headed back down and followed Cummins Branch Rd to FR 54 and walked the road back to Lone Pine Gap. This section was a bit boring but not one vehicle passed me during this time. |
