Ascent Trip ReportA brief stop off on journey back to England. Huge summit area car park. Plenty to amuse ourselves with on the wooded summit plateau laced with paths:- Ludwig's Tower (€2) provides a non-social distancing climb of 136 steps and fine views. A seemingly abandoned and fenced military? comms. compound on the high point(?). Excellent rhyolite outcrop on W edge of summit plateau - I believe the top of the outcrop to be lower than the comms. enclosure but no line of sight to check. I can recommend the Gutenbornerhof vineyard campsite 16 km NE with grassy pitches and opportunity for wine tasting. Dinner is enjoyed outside in the warm evening under starry skies accompanied by a bottle of the excellent local wine, a fine end to a 3 week trip in the Germany and Austrian alps. Back home tomorrow to 5days of isolation in compliance with England's Covid rules.
