Ascent Trip ReportDrove in from Interstate 8 on State Route 79 to Descanso. Followed Oak Grove Drive to Boulder Creek. First 5 miles are paved and the last 8 are on a well graded dirt road. Arrived at the parking area at 9:30 am with a temperature of 59 degrees and only one other car in the lot. Followed an abandoned dirt road past the locked gate to the west and passed the side trail to the waterfall. Continued up and over three false summits. Ducks and faded trail flagging placed on final summit ascent. Located the benchmark and register on the western-most high point. Clear, calm, and sunny. Saw nobody else on the summit. Encountered a couple of hikers going to the falls on my return and another two in the parking lot as I was leaving. Now seven total cars in the lot with all apparently going to the falls. A little brushy in a few spots, but nothing really bad. Noticed that someone did some recent minor clipping of chamise near the flagging on top. |
