Ascent Trip Report

For the northern of the two Jefferson County high points the forest roads heading toward the high point are open to vehicles for hunting season after Nov. 6 making this a virtual drive up if you have a high clearance vehicle. I entered the high point coordinates in my GPS just after the gate on Empire Rd.and followed the GPS in my vehicle to within 90 feet of the high point. It's a large relatively flat area so I tromped about a bit for exercise as well as to be sure I found the high point. The highest GPS readings were atop several large rocks.

Pa. has an impressive array of state owned game lands that offer hiking as well as hunting opportunities and means quite a few county high points are on public land.
