Ascent of Butler County High Point on 2010-11-07Date: | Sunday, November 7, 2010 | Ascent Type: | Successful Summit Attained | Peak: | Butler County High Point | Location: | USA-Pennsylvania | Elevation: | 1592 ft / 485 m |
Ascent Trip ReportThe County High Pointers Organization lists five high points for Butler County. Pa. Go to their web site for detailed directions to them. (My distance and elevation gain figures are totals for the five ascents). However, based on my GPS readings #1 Kelley Benchmark and #5 point east of Annisville, Pa. are significantly lower (more than 20 feet lower in each case, e.g. more than the margin of error of a GPS unit) than the other three and should be dropped from the list. Kelley Benchmark apparently was strip mined and is now 30-40 feet lower than at the time of the USGS survey, and I suspect that is the case with #5 as well. Also, I encountered the owner of #2 and #3 who has had serious problems with vandalism and does not want any more high pointers entering his property. This may not be possible as a legal ascent in the future. |
