Ascent Trip ReportFull parking lot at the 9N trailhead. 12:25 p.m. start on a Saturday, headed to Owls Head Lookout and then to the Giant Mountain Shelter via the North trail. One hour and 20 minutes to the lookout with a full pack. Good views of Bald Mountain, Rocky Peak Ridge, Giant Mountain, Green Mountain, Knobblock, Hurricane Mountain. About 7 people hanging around on the overlook rocks. I saw no one else as I continued on to the shelter, passing High Bank on a nicely graded and well maintained trail. Arrived to the shelter at 4:00, 3 hours 23 minutes hiking time. One group of two was already at the shelter, so I set up my hammock. Cold night, below freezing but nice stars through the trees.
Left camp at 8 to start the bushwhack up to Green. I started out just above a little stream crossing back down the Trail a short ways the way I had come in. Pretty easy going for the most part, lightly wooded mostly with only a few cliffs to go around or up and only two really tight areas with bothersome deadfall. Just over an hour to the top. Nice views back to Giant from the top of one cliff and a good view out towards Lake Champlain from a stance atop a downed tree towards the back side.. 15 minutes on top and 45 minutes on the descent, much easier going down a little more to the West where I was led by some herd path super highways leaving the summit ridge.
