Ascent Trip ReportAfter my morning ascent of Vounasa
Drove up from Galatina to SW on good unpaved wind farm road - but 2 deep water bars (transverse drainage channels) in last few km could be tricky without high clearance: the first at 1520m, the last near the top is fiercer. NB the facility apparently closes at ?sunset (7pm at time of visit, see previous TR), and the drive up takes about 40mins from Galatina and the walk about 30mins round trip. I parked between the two uppermost turbines, which were very busy in a strong wind, didn't fancy parking vehicle close to one. Then paint marked trail, easy terrain, small shrine on outcrop at highpoint, wrongly marked 2101m; square trig pillar 4m to N. Fine views but cold wind. Walking back I passed a couple who apparently were walking the ridge, the proper way to do it I daresay.
Across the valley is Velia, my next peak - a short drive and very short walk, as it turns out.
