Ascent Trip ReportGranite Butte *
9 August, 2020
From the saddle between China Cap and Burger peaks I descended down towards the meadow until I reached the junction to Sand Pass where I turned right up to the pass. At Sand Pass I used the trail to Mule Peak lookout to advance my cause toward Granite Butte. I got to where I judged it to be the shortest distance to the summit of Granite Butte and began climbing to the summit. After reaching the summit
I returned to my pack and walked towards Mule Peak. From the summit of Mule Peak I scouted my route East towards Echo Lake NW Peak. From Mule Peak I soon discovered that the best route towards Echo Lake NW Peak was actually the ridge from the summit of Granite Butte! SO, I dutifully retraced my steps and walked to the summit of Granite Butte for the second time in an hour. From the summit I proceeded to the East down the ridge picking my way through boulder fields and cliff areas
I camped on a ridge about half way between Granite Peak and Echo Lane NW where I had a wonderful sheltered abode for the night..
