Ascent Trip ReportI was coming from Silver Peak and planned on sleeping at the trailhead in order to get an early start the next morning. It was after dark and I was still driving.
About 2 miles from the starting point a cougar suddenly jumped from the cut-bank at a full run landing in the middle of the road around 30 yards in front of the pickup. In midair it turned its head looking at the bright lights closing in on it. Naturally I let off the gas and before I could ask: "did that really happen?" a second cougar came bounding off the cut-bank following on the heels of the first, again looking at the headlights before landing in the road then diving off the far side and disappearing. I have no clue if they were litter mates or if it was a territorial dispute. Whatever it was, it was a really cool experience!
hit Green Craggie and Peak 4150 along the way. A pleasant way to spend a day.
