Ascent Trip ReportA great hike! Up Hale Brook trail. Started pretty cool (20's) with some ice on the few wet spots. Most of the leaves were gone and we were the first people in the parking lot. Two more cars showed up before we headed out, so getting there at dawn was a good idea.
Trail up was not bad, lots of leaf cover on the ground. By the time we go to the top we were hitting our stride. My first time feeding a Grey Jay. Something almost magical about a bird eating out of your bare hand! Decided instead of turning around and going back down the same (viewless) trail, we'd head south on the Lend A Hand trail to the AMC hut and then turn onto Zealand trail to Zealand road. THough it doubled our milage it was a great choice! Stopping for hot cocoa at the hut and just checking out the falls was AWESOME. The variety of the terrain was neat too. A great Hike.
