Ascent Trip Report

The next day we hit our first state line and went straight uphill from trhat point. Hit my first 17 mile day that day! I am doind better than expected after getting off to a slow start. It rained all night long that night and ended up lightly raining all morning. After we stoppeed for lunch at a place called Carter Gap, we managed to climb the chimney of Albert Mountain, which was our first really hard mountain of the trip. There was a sign here saying that this was the wettest place in the eastern US, something that I could defintely believe. The next day we woke up to heavy snow and 30 degree weather and one of our fellow thru hikers woke up to find 6 baby mice in the bottom of her backpack :-) That day, the heavy snow changed the heavy rain and started to melt everything. It was still raining hard at 3pm that day, so Soren and I ended up calling it a day.
