Ascent Trip ReportThis summit is within the village of Guadagnolo - which is just as well, as I'd arrived in mist and darkness. I parked in the main square at N41 54 47.5 E12 55 43.5, 1203m (GPSr). From here, the Ruta Normale ;-) heads NW past a risotrante, through an arch. On the L, look for the Via S. Giacomo, then head up some steps to arrive at a tall statue (el redentore, it would seem). The natural highpoint is just to the R, up a jumble of stone blocks, with a battered cylindrical column (perhaps a trig pillar) atop a limestone outcrop above a steep drop.
En route to the village I (very nearly) bumped into a cow grazing beside the twisty mountain road (to be fair, there are warning signs). Shortly afterwards I met two more, with the curoius spectacle of the backsides of 2 dogs wriggling under the crash barrier. Curious ...
Next morning, having slept nearby, I was awoken early by several cars parking next to mine and people heading out into the scrub. later I heard the sound of shots. Either duellists or I guess hunters... With the early start I reckoned I just about had time to bag Monte Faete (Máschio delle Faete) before my late-morning flight from Rome - which I almost did ... |
