Ascent of Mesahchie Peak on 2020-09-10
|Date:||Thursday, September 10, 2020|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||8795 ft / 2680 m|
Ascent Trip ReportWe took the high route in and this worked very well. gpx attached. took us 2.5 hrs from easy pass to camp below mesahchie. the next day we climbed both peaks which took 6.5 hrs camp to camp and then hiked out via the lower trail. there was a lot of steep, downward traversing to get to the lower trail and then the 1500' of gain to get back to the pass. i thought it was easier on the upper route even though there was more traversing overall.
Mesahchie is definitely the harder of the two peaks, lots of class 3 scrambling. however, the most difficult section is down low just getting to the notch that separates the two peaks. while neither is difficult there's lots of loose rock so have to be particularly careful when coming down unless you are solo.
