Ascent Trip Report

Our initial attempt is from the Langbathsee where there's a huge car park. Forest track S ascends valley and cairned path reaches base of steep wide gully, the only weakness in the impressive limestone scenery. Scrambling up there's nothing particularly hard but with increasing exposure and dripping limestone walls it's all too committing without gear. We pick our way back down to the base of the gully and retreat to the car. In better weather and with 60m of rope in case of need to retreat by abseil it would no doubt make a good day out and probably no more than a straight forward scramble.

Now 11:45, for an ascent today we are somewhat committed to use of the Feuerkgel cable car and we catch the 12:30 departure speeding upwards over forest into cloud and the top station at just under 1600m alt. Well signed track then undulating rocky path through limestone outcrops and dwarf pine to rounded summit with cross, survey block, visitors book on rock outcrop and swathes of dwarf pine. High point rock outcrop at edge of dwarf pines. No views today. Make it back for 17:40 in time to catch the last cable car down (18:00)
