Ascent Trip Report

This was my third peak of the day, and I was starting to run out of daylight, so I decided to pick up the trail where it crossed the road at about 7500'. I ended up not finding the path (or a place to pull off), so I ended up just parking in the surprisingly large lot just below the summit. I felt silly driving all the way up to the top, so I decided to just reverse my intended trek by hiking down to the trail crossing, then back to the summit.

I arrived at the top just in time to catch a fantastic sunset through the thick blanket of clouds rolling in from the west. This is a really scenic area and a wonderful viewpoint, with the Sisters, Bachelor, and Broken Top to the northwest, the two lakes and pumice cone in the caldera to the north, and the desert surrounding to the east.

I'll be back to the top of this one, probably sometime in the winter on a snowshoeing excursion.
