Ascent Trip Report

After the previous afternoon's Gurnwandkopf ascent.

From NE, Kugelbachweg, car park at end of tarmac, then mapped forest roads and marked paths to Nordgipfel (metal cross, gipfelbuch), clear mostly unmarked trail onwards to highpoint, small wooden cross on outcrop, impressive cliffs below to W. Signs all mention Pfasterbachhördl but this is the lower far N summit and seems to have no path. I encountered tree felling on my way up (my route was actually closed) so I returned around the S end of the peak, on mapped trails, a little scrambly and exposed in places with cable protection but nowhere difficult; easy YDS3 in a couple of spots. Down past Paul Gruber Haus then on forest road back to trailhead, a few folk on the trail including an army group, second in 2 days. 1h55 up, 5mins on summit, 2h down.

Rabensteinhorn photos

Around midday I make a cable car assisted ascent of Karkopf.
