Ascent Trip ReportWith JB. Incredible area. Once you get past the crowds in the initial few miles, you can really enjoy Garibaldi PP. Traversing ~100' under the summit block / "tusk" to get to the back end and scramble up, climbers walking around the summit began kicking choss down on us. We were pinned against the side of the cliff as rocks the size of bowling balls rained down on us. Watched a woman take rockfall to her calf, begin to fall down the volcanic scree, and miraculously arrested with a hiking pole (she was fine). Wow, what a disaster. No, we didn't have helmets. No, we didn't do our research. Ended the day at ~19 mi after checking out Garibaldi Lake, which was incredible. |
