Ascent Trip ReportAttempted on Southbound Ptarmigan Traverse with Josh Lewis. Cramponed up the SW snowfield from LaConte Col. Razor thin moat and wet loose rock made for poor climbing conditions despite fair weather. Couldn't find anything that could be safely down-climbed after gaining rock up to about 7800'. All holds popped off in our hands and the snow had retreated too much from the rock for a direct climb over the moat to reach the key ledge. Hopefully I can return someday earlier in season. |
