Ascent Trip Report

This peak is on private property. The peak is just off of Sulphur Mountain Road, which is accessed from Highway 150 in the Upper Ojai Valley. The accessible portion of road travels approximately 4.75 miles up to the top of the ridge and then along it before ending at a gate, where the road continues along down to Hwy 33, accessible to hikers, bicyclists, and horses (and of course cars to the few people who have property along the road in that area).

Probably about 1/4 mile from the gate is the area where the High Point is located. Look for a sign on the left side of the road which says "This is a Communications Relay Corp Facility. For Leasing and Other Info Call (818) 997-7700". Just past this sign is a dirt driveway indicating the address 8228 Sulphur Mountain Road. The driveway has an open gate that does not appear to be used. Proceed up the driveway and then at a Y-intersection, take the left driveway. This area is very open and it is very easy to see where to go. The true summit is at a large water tank at the end of the driveway, and past a house, a few buildings, a radio tower, some rusted equipment, etc. In Peakbagger, the High Point is marked across a short open field back toward Sulphur Mountain Road by another house, and some old Oaks. It is easy to access the field through a separate gate and to walk across it. One can also approach by walking the fence-line back by the road. I scouted both areas. However, it was very clear to me that the actual highpoint is at the water tank.
