Ascent Trip ReportW Richard. 14.5 hrs car2car
Many times I have planned to go for Jack in last 2 years. But I have never actually gone for it due to weather, conditions, partners, etc
No longer- Richard was down and we got it today!! So so stoked
1. Fun scrambling!! On the way up that is, down was tedious
2. Swimming/Chilling at Jerry Lakes after summit!
3. Sunrise from Crater col
Notes: we more or less followed Scott rice’s track. The route was as advertised with 1 class 4 rock step then loose 2/3 to summit. The snowfield was firm in am and we took care. We brought 60m rope to rap step based on beta from some reports, but a 30m would have been fine.
There were 5 parties going for Jack summit today. WTF? I thought it only got ~3 parties a year to get it. Some parties were inexperienced. One dude climbed without a helmet. We did our best to communicate with other parties to minimize rockfall issues with moderate success. Nonetheless, Richard got hit by 2 rocks, one on helmet and one on hand. He has one of those fancy light helmets so will have to replace. I hope everyone was safe after we got outta there.
This is not a hike or a trail run, it is a serious mountain and please only attempt if you know what you are doing.
