Ascent Trip ReportFollowing a later morning Monte Alpi ascent.
From SE, parking at road end near rifugio, path N then dirt road L signposted for Pellegrino, gentle ascent, until trail turns off R then R again, steeply along ridge then another steep climb onto crest, all fairly well paint marked, reaching first (SW) summit, trail then descends R a little to pass through beech trees, then shortly R again to find trail thru more extensive beeches, this time keeping L to regain crest, reaching a second summit with dramatic cliffs falling to L and directly ahead guarding the main summit, which is reached via a slightly exposed path along edge of scrub, to reach main summit marked by a large heap of stones.
I decide to continue east to complete the circuit, the trail initially following the crest, then at a paint marked boulder and cairn, angling down L, with a grassy trail visible, and OpenStreetMap track fairly accurate, paint marked stones soon reached, and the route is then obvious and well marked (but not accurate on OSM). Trail passes thru a meadow, then more forest, before reaching a signed junction with forest road (unpaved), R here, then immediately after a hairpin bend L (heading SW) look for clear paint mark on tree to R where trail leaves road and continues, pleasantly and well marked, leading back to trailhead. 1h50 up (slowish, some phone time spent researching and booking Sicily ferry ticket), 1h20 down arriving just before dusk.

Then nice quiet drive south on A3 to Villa San Giovanni for early morning crossing to Sicily. I climbed Monte Soro mid morning. |
