Ascent Trip ReportParked at AT trailhead on Pa 183 about 4 mi.n. of I-78. On the way out we missed the side trial and went close to 2 mi. until we started heading downhill. We bushwacked south uphill from there following altimeter readings to make sure we were headed up (it's not steep and not always obvious). Ran into yellow blazed Caleb Frantz Trail about 0.2 mi. from the high point. Returning we followed that back to the AT. Signage at that point (about 0.4 mi. from 183) says the high point is 1.6 mi. but my GPS readings suggest it's not much more than that total from 183 to the high point. Flock of squawking geese passed overhead as we relaxed at the high point. Altimeter readings suggest the high point's elevation is close to the top of the 1680-1700 foot range. |
