Ascent Trip ReportOvercome by eye-candy on my 5-day segment hike of the PCT, I dropped my pack and blitzed for the summit. At a trail junction a little below the right-shoulder saddle I took the switchback to the right. The summit affords fantastic views in all directions, including down into the crater which still sheltered snow in mid-August. If climbed at a moderate pace, this worthwhile diversion from the PCT can be cycled in about an hour from the obvious but unsigned trail junction immediately northwest of where the PCT crosses into the Little Belknap lava field. |
