Ascent Trip ReportHeaded out from the Garden approx 11:30 pm on 8/5 for Haystack to catch the sunrise. After hours of hiking with some moonlit skies over rocks, water and mud, crossing the high water bridge, small creeks and Johns Brook (at another point with rock hopping), reached a very windy Little Haystack for a gorgeous sunrise. Went on to Haystack, super windy, braced against the wind to hit the summit. Met a steward who was coming down Little Haystack enroute to Haystack. Went on to Basin, again very wet. Winds died down. Spectacular views from all 3 mountains. Many scrambles, some a little tricky but could be worked out, a couple ladders. The trail is tough overall, long, takes a lot of mental work to watch your footing. Johns Brook Lodge: must wear mask on porch, etc.
