Ascent Trip ReportTraverse Sing to Gale via upper Chain Lake. Swim!
Sing Peak honors legendary backcountry chef, Tie Sing, whose fine meals fed the US Geological Survey expeditions and impressed the dignitaries who would influence formation of the National Park Service. Although all I managed to bring along for my dayhike were fig bars, traversing from Sing to Gale Peak provided a brief taste of Yosemite Wilderness scrambling with a traverse route that had taken my group over a week ironically visible nearby. This quick trip made for scenic easing back into thin air in an area known for easy backpacking. Twenty-Five days away from the high country during prime time had felt too long, but it's better than the forty day gap I endured last summer recovering from several fractured bones!
